This course counts as the required 24 hours of EMS Continuing Education (CE) for current or expired (within the past 2 years) EMTs in California. This course is based upon the EMT Refresher topics as outlined in the National EMS Curriculum.
Also needed is a valid CPR certification and California EMT Skills Testing, which is currently scheduled monthly in Simi Valley, California or can be provided by a certified instructor in your area.
Each State EMS Agency establishes it's own specific EMT certification requirements many of which simply utilize the certification process of the NREMT (see below for how this course applies to NREMTs).
Additionally, local EMS agencies, EMS Providers, and Medical Directors can establish higher standards and requirements. Please contact your EMS Agency for specific recertification requirements. State EMS Agencies Information
Those currently certified as NREMTs have three options to recertify before their certification expires.
This option requires 24 hours of refresher training (10 of which can be taken online) and 48 hours of Continuing Education (CE) training (24 of which can be taken online). This course applies as 24 hours (10 Refresher + 14 CE).
This option requires 72 hours of CE training (24 of which must include the United States DOT National Standards Curriculum Topics) of which 24 can be taken online. This course applies as 24 hours of CE.
Certified EMS professionals may make one attempt to demonstrate continued cognitive competency by taking an examination (in lieu of documenting continuing education) within six months of their expiration date (October 1 through March 31).

EMT Refresher Student have 1 day to process a refund as detailed below.
The student has a right to cancel the enrollment agreement and obtain a refund. The institution shall, for all students, without penalty or obligation, refund 100 percent of the amount paid for the institutional charges, less a reasonable deposit or application fee not to exceed $100.00, if the notice of cancellation is made prior to or on the first day of instruction. Furthermore, the student has the right to withdraw from a course of instruction at any time. A student who has completed 60 percent or less of the course of instruction shall be granted a pro rata refund of tuition and amounts paid for returnable equipment. Books, once they have been opened, are not refundable. If the student withdraws from the program of instruction after instruction has begun, the student is obligated to pay only for educational services rendered, plus the non-refundable registration fee. Any student who withdraws after completing 60% or more of the course will not receive a refund. There will be no refund issued if student fails program or any requisite requirements. Safety Unlimited, Inc. offers a distance education program where the instruction is not offered in real time and shall transmit the first lesson and any materials to students within seven days after the institution accepts the student for admission. The student shall have the right to cancel the agreement and receive a full refund pursuant to section CCR71750 before the first lesson and materials are received. Cancellation is effective on the date written notice of cancellation is sent.
In lieu of a refund, students are allowed to reschedule the class one time as long as they contact Safety Unlimted, Inc. in writing prior to the first day of class. Keep in mind that the above refund policy applies to the original class dates of instruction, not the rescheduled dates. Students will not be eligible to receive a refund of any kind after the original class dates have passed.
A student withdraws from the program after completing 5 hours of instruction. $125.00 less $25.00 registration fee and $00.00 STRF assessment fee = $100.00 divided by 24 hours = $4.17 hourly program charge. 5 hours X $4.17 = $20.85. $100.00 less $20.85 = $79.15 refund. This calculation does not include a refund for the books.
You must pay the state-imposed fee for the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) if all of the following applies to you: (1) you are a student, who is a California resident and prepays all or part of your tuition either by cash, guaranteed student loans, or personal loans; and (2) your total charges are not paid by any third-party payer such as an employer, government program or other payer unless you have a separate agreement to repay the third party. You are not eligible for protection from the STRF and you are not required to pay the STRF fee if either of the following applies: (1) you are not a California resident; and (2) your total charges are paid by a third party, such as an employer, government program, or other payer and you have no separate agreement to repay the third party.

We're excited to announce that this course is now available in HTML 5, making it more compatible with the browser on your mobile device (e.g., smartphone or tablet).
Many of our existing courses are presented using Adobe Flash Player and require additional software that may not be available on your mobile device. By comparison, this course requires only the most recent version of your mobile device's web browser.
Mobile versions of this sort of training are new, but below are some Pros and Cons that we have noticed during our extensive testing.
During our testing we noticed that tablets work much better than smartphones, simply due to their screen size. The newer the device, the better the result. We are also aware that the course will not work on the first generation iPad, nor older Android Tablets.
Because this is a Beta version of our course, you may encounter some issues as we work out the kinks.
While HTML5 makes taking this course on mobile devices possible, not all mobile browsers are optimized for HTML5, meaning you may not have complete functionality. If you have difficulty taking this course using the browser on your mobile device, you may need to use a different browser.
Test the functionality of your browser using HTML5 and compare it to the performance of other browsers. If you find other browsers are more compatible than your own, you may want to make the switch.
